ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP): AI Agents for Digital Transformation Projects
Design and prototype AI agents for real digital transformation challenges in international teams!
Participants work in international teams on a concrete organizational or business challenge. Starting from the underlying problem and existing processes, teams design an AI-supported solution and develop a functional AI agent prototype. The programme combines digital transformation, process redesign, AI agent design, prototyping, testing, and responsible AI use. The focus is not solely on software engineering or advanced programming. Instead, the programme approaches AI agents from a management, process development, and digital transformation perspective.
The BIP combines online preparation and international virtual teamwork with an intensive five-day project week in Budapest.
Key information in a nutshell:
BIP: AI Agents for Digital Transformation Projects
Format: Blended Intensive Programme – virtual sessions & on-site week
Virtual phase: October – December 2026
On-site phase: 18–22 January 2027
On-site location: Budapest, Hungary
Language: English
Application deadline: 23.10.2026 (please see more information below)
Participating universities: Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), and Krakow University of Economics (UEK)
Approach: International teamwork, challenge-based learning, prototyping, and workshops
Previous programming experience: Not required
For FAU students: Connection to the Designing Technology course
For FAU students, the BIP is directly connected to the Designing Technology course offered by the Chair of Information Systems I – Innovation and Value Creation. The Designing Technology course examines how innovative technological artefacts can be designed to extend human and organizational capabilities and solve organizational problems. The BIP builds on this perspective by providing an international project environment focused specifically on AI agents and digital transformation.
FAU students selected for the BIP will therefore also participate in Designing Technology and its lecture sessions.
Please note that participation in Designing Technology does not automatically include participation in the BIP. Students interested in the BIP must apply separately.
What this program offers:
The program provides students with the opportunity to experience digital transformation from initial problem identification to the development and presentation of a working solution. Participants explore where AI agents can create meaningful organizational value and learn how to translate business and process challenges into AI-supported solutions.
Working in international teams, students will:
- analyze an organizational or business problem
- examine existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement
- develop a future process supported by an AI agent
- define the agent’s role, instructions, context, skills, and workflows
- build a functional no-code or low-code prototype
- test and evaluate the proposed solution
- consider governance, ethical, and organizational implications
- present the final solution from a business and digital transformation perspective
The result is therefore more than a chatbot. Teams develop a complete AI agent project package connecting technology with processes, organizational requirements, governance, and business value. Moreover, students learn to consider not only what an AI agent can technically do, but also where it should be used, how it should interact with organizational processes, what information it requires, how its performance can be evaluated, and what governance mechanisms are necessary for responsible deployment.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the programme, participants should be able to:
- identify organizational processes and problems in which AI agents can create meaningful value
- translate digital transformation challenges into concrete AI-supported solutions
- understand the roles of prompts, instructions, context, knowledge, skills, workflows, and agent logic
- design the operational structure and role of an AI agent within an organizational process
- develop a functional no-code or low-code AI agent prototype
- systematically test and evaluate an AI-supported solution
- assess organizational, ethical, governance, and human-oversight requirements
- communicate and defend an AI-supported digital transformation solution in a business context
Blended format
Virtual phase
The virtual phase establishes a common foundation before the on-site week in Budapest. Participants take part in online learning activities, guided preparation tasks, synchronous workshops, and collaborative international teamwork.
Overall, topics include:
- Introduction to digital transformation and designing technology
- Process analysis and process redesign
- AI and AI agent fundamentals
- Prompting and context engineering
- Instructions and agent design
- Skills, workflows, and agent logic
- Knowledge bases and tool integration
- Testing, governance, and responsible AI
During this phase, the international teams begin defining their project challenge. Before arriving in Budapest, each team should already have identified its organizational problem, conducted an initial process analysis, developed first ideas for the AI agent, and prepared an initial project foundation.
Intensive week in Budapest
The five-day on-site phase is organized as an intensive week. Teams progressively move through the digital transformation project:
Problem understanding → Process redesign → Agent design → Prototyping → Testing → Business presentation
The week combines short conceptual inputs with workshops, team-based development, mentoring, testing, and continuous refinement of the proposed solution.
